As of October 2026, citizens of 19 countries and territories can enter Bali with no visa and no visa fee: the 10 ASEAN members (Brunei, the Philippines, Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Singapore, Thailand, Timor-Leste, Vietnam), plus Suriname, Colombia, Hong Kong, Türkiye, Brazil, Peru, Kazakhstan, Belarus and Macau. The stay is capped at 30 days and cannot be extended. Australians, Britons, Americans, Japanese, Koreans, Chinese, Indians and most Europeans are not on the list; they enter on a paid e-VOA.
The legal basis is Presidential Regulation No. 95 of 2024 on Visa-Free Visits (BVK), with the country list in force since 12 August 2025 according to the Ngurah Rai Immigration Office, plus Minister of Immigration and Corrections Regulation (Permenimipas) No. 10 of 2026, effective 9 July 2026. All checked October 2026.
What is the full list?
- ASEAN (10): Brunei Darussalam, the Philippines, Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Singapore, Thailand, Timor-Leste, Vietnam.
- Added by Presidential Regulation 95/2024 (3): Suriname, Colombia, Hong Kong.
- On the list since 2025 (3): Türkiye, Brazil, Peru. All three are restated in Permenimipas 10/2026, which also revoked Permenimipas 10/2025.
- New from 9 July 2026 (3): Kazakhstan, Belarus, Macau SAR.
One honest caveat: the foreigner-services page of the Ngurah Rai Immigration Office, checked in October 2026, still lists only 16 names and has not yet added Kazakhstan, Belarus and Macau. We took those three from the text of Permenimipas 10/2026 as reported by Metro TV and other national media on 16 July 2026. If your passport is from one of them, double-check at evisa.imigrasi.go.id before you buy a ticket.
How is visa-free different from a VOA?
Visa-free means you pay nothing and apply for nothing to get in. A VOA (Visa on Arrival) or e-VOA costs IDR 500,000, also gives 30 days, but can be extended once for a total of 60 days. Fees, requirements and the extension process are covered in our Bali e-VOA 2026 article.
- Cost: visa-free IDR 0; e-VOA IDR 500,000 per person, children included.
- Length of stay: 30 days for both.
- Extension: visa-free none; e-VOA once, for 30 days.
- Change of status: a visa-free stay permit cannot be converted into another type of permit inside Indonesia.
I'm Malaysian but want to stay 45 days. What now?
Don't enter visa-free. Day 31 already counts as overstay, and immigration will not extend it. Nationals of visa-free countries may still choose the paid e-VOA from the start, because that is the permit that can be extended. For longer plans, apply for the right visit visa at evisa.imigrasi.go.id before departure. The overstay fine listed by the Ngurah Rai Immigration Office is IDR 1,000,000 per day; details are in our overstay fine article.
What can a visa-free entry be used for?
Tourism, government duty visits, business talks and transit. Working, being paid by an Indonesian party, or other commercial activity is not allowed. Attending a meeting or trade fair as a participant usually counts as "business talks"; teaching paid yoga classes or shooting a wedding for a local client does not.
Do I still need to fill anything in before flying?
Yes, even though it is free:
- All Indonesia Arrival Card (immigration, customs and health declaration in one), filled online no earlier than three days before arrival.
- BVK registration at evisa.imigrasi.go.id if you want to use the autogates. Without it you will be sent to a manual counter.
- Passport valid for at least 6 months from arrival, and proof of onward travel, which airlines may ask for at check-in.
- Bali's IDR 150,000 foreign tourist levy still applies. Visa-free only waives the visa fee, not the provincial levy under Bali Regional Regulation No. 6 of 2023.
Does visa-free apply if I'm only transiting?
If you stay airside in the international transit area, you never pass immigration. If you clear immigration in Bali to fly on to Lombok or Labuan Bajo, your 30 days start from the entry stamp in Bali and cover all of Indonesia, not just Bali. Separate tickets and the airport's new transfer bridge are explained in our Bali airport transit article.
Can I do a quick border run for a fresh 30 days?
There is no written ban on leaving and re-entering, for example via Singapore or Kuala Lumpur. But officers assess the purpose of every entry. Repeated in-and-out trips to live in Bali for months on visa-free entries are easy to read as living or working without the right permit, and entry can be refused. For long stays, use a visa designed for that.
Quick examples: which group is your passport in?
- Singapore or Malaysia, 10-day holiday: visa-free. Register at evisa.imigrasi.go.id if you want the autogates, fill in the arrival card, pay the IDR 150,000 levy.
- Malaysia or Thailand, 6 weeks: don't use visa-free. Get an e-VOA and extend it once.
- Brazil or Türkiye: visa-free since 2025, with the same 30-day terms.
- Kazakhstan, Belarus, Macau: visa-free since 9 July 2026. Check evisa.imigrasi.go.id, as the airport immigration office page hasn't been updated.
- Australia, UK, US, Japan, Korea: not visa-free. e-VOA at IDR 500,000 per person.
Why does this list keep changing?
In 2016 Indonesia gave visa-free entry to 169 countries. That list was suspended during the pandemic and then cut back, and since 2023 the government has applied reciprocity: countries that waive visas for Indonesians are more likely to be included. Old travel blogs that still say "169 visa-free countries" are out of date. The government can also suspend visa-free entry for a country on security or health grounds.
The most reliable check is evisa.imigrasi.go.id: enter your nationality and purpose of visit, and the system tells you if you are visa-free, need an e-VOA, or must apply in advance. Do it a week before you fly, not in the check-in queue.
