La Fresa Kintamani: Japanese Strawberry Picking, Worth the Price?

Entry to La Fresa in Belancan village, Kintamani, is Rp35,000, and every strawberry you pick is charged at Rp25,000 per 100 grams. Half a kilo in your basket is already Rp125,000. Those figures come from detikBali's visit on 14 May 2026, checked again in October 2026.

What you get

The 5-hectare farm grows Japanese strawberry varieties. Seedlings come from Japan, are raised in Bandung and then planted in Kintamani. The fruit is larger, juicier and less sour than local strawberries. The entry ticket can be swapped for a farm product such as dried strawberries coated in white chocolate or a bottle of milk with strawberry jam. There are also flower beds (lavender, cosmos, sunflowers, globe amaranth), swings, a slide and a rabbit pen; carrots to feed the rabbits cost Rp10,000.

The drawbacks

  • Pricey fruit: Rp250,000 per kilo, far above local strawberries sold at highland markets.
  • Weather-dependent: the manager admits Japanese strawberries are prone to fungus and sensitive to rain. They plant in rotation so there is always fruit, but how much is ready to pick can change from week to week.
  • Light oversight: Bangli's tourism office says agritourism in Kintamani is mostly privately run, with little cooperation with local government so far.
  • No Batur view: do not expect the caldera panorama you get at the Penelokan cafés.

Verdict

Worth it for families with small children: the activity is clear, there is a play area and the air is cool. For couples or travellers chasing views of Mount Batur, Rp35,000 plus picking charges feels steep for a visit of about an hour; that money goes further on a caldera-view lunch at Lakeview in Penelokan. One caveat: sources disagree on when it started. A September 2025 report says 2020, while the May 2026 report says it opened to the public in July 2022.

Hours, prices, location

  • Location: Belancan village, Kintamani district, Bangli. About 1.5 hours from Denpasar via Abiansemal and Payangan. View on Google Maps
  • Hours: daily 09:00-17:00 WITA (per detikBali, September 2025).
  • Prices: Rp35,000 entry, Rp25,000 per 100 g picked (May 2026).
  • Crowds: around 50 visitors on weekdays, up to double on weekends and long holidays.
  • Instagram: search on Instagram. Do not confuse it with La Fresa Farm in Lembang, West Bandung, which is a different place.

Pack a jacket. Kintamani can turn misty and cold even at midday, and the beds are open to the sky with little shade apart from the strawberry-print straw hats the farm lends out.
