The cacao farm tour at Desa Cokelat Bali, run by CAU Chocolates in Desa Tua, Marga district, Tabanan, was priced at Rp20,000 per person according to detikBali, while the make-your-own-chocolate package is charged separately. The local chocolate brand CAU built it on its factory grounds, and a Budaya Bali feature from August 2026 shows it still receiving visitors, with a chocolate-themed restaurant, a souvenir shop and teaching areas.
What you actually do
The concept is bean to bar: you walk through the cacao garden, see pods harvested, then follow fermentation, drying and processing until the beans become edible chocolate. On the chocolate-making package you mould your own bar and take it home. There is also a cultural add-on such as making canang offerings with local staff. For families with school-age kids, the hands-on part is more engaging than a simple souvenir stop. For other coffee and vanilla farms in Bali, see our agritourism guide.
Downsides to know
Current prices are not published online. The Rp20,000 figure comes from 2022 coverage, so treat it as an old benchmark. Sources also disagree on the start date: Budaya Bali says it opened to the public in 2020, detikBali says the tour programme began in October 2022. It is not a traditional village either, because it sits inside the PT Cau Coklat Internasional factory compound. If you want a heritage village, look elsewhere. A visit takes 1-2 hours, so pair it with something else in Marga, such as Pengempu Waterfall in Cau Belayu.
Hours, prices, location
- Location: Desa Tua, Marga, Tabanan. View on Google Maps
- Distance: roughly 45-60 minutes from Denpasar or Ubud on village roads; a small car is easier than a minibus.
- Tickets: farm tour Rp20,000 per person (2022 data); chocolate class priced separately. Confirm before you go (checked October 2026, no official online rate).
- Hours: not listed in the sources we checked; message them before setting off.
- Contact: search CAU Chocolates on Instagram.
- Parking: inside the compound; the village approach is narrow for large buses.
Come in the morning if you want to see work in the garden, since Tabanan often gets afternoon rain in the wet season.
