Bakso Eso Baturiti: Beef Intestine Meatball Soup Since 1965

A bowl of bakso eso in Baturiti, Tabanan, now costs Rp20,000. When the late I Wayan Sukarya started selling it in 1965, it cost Rp5. detikBali ran the story on 2 August 2026, and the warung is now run by his eldest daughter, Ni Luh Suryantini, with her husband and children.

What is bakso eso?

Eso is beef intestine. Here it is the main topping alongside beef tendon (tetelan), and you can add rice porridge (bubur) to the bowl, something rarely offered at city bakso stalls. If you do not eat offal, there is chicken bakso. The family goes through about 5 kg of beef and chicken a day.

Two locations, two time slots

• Morning: a stall inside Baturiti market, until 11:00.
• Midday to evening: the warung on the south side of Baturiti market, Banjar Pacung, 12:00-18:00. View on Google Maps
• Halal: made with beef and chicken, no pork according to detikBali, but no halal certificate is mentioned. Ask in person if that matters to you.
• Parking: no dedicated lot is mentioned. The market area is crowded in the morning, so the afternoon warung is easier to reach by car.

Worth knowing

An undated third-party food guide lists a "Bakso Eso Jangkrik" in Baturiti with a different address and hours (08:00-17:00). It is unclear whether that is the same warung, so use Baturiti market as your landmark. Offal bakso is not for everyone either. If you do not like the texture of intestine, order the chicken version.

Baturiti sits on the Denpasar-Bedugul road, so a hot bowl here makes an easy stop before heading up to Candikuning market. Arrive before 11:00 if you want to eat at the market stall. At Rp20,000 it is about US$1.20.
