Hidden in the highlands of Petang, Nungnung Waterfall is one of the most majestic waterfalls in Badung. Standing around 50 meters tall, its powerful flow creates a thick mist and a roar you hear long before you arrive. The air feels cool thanks to the elevation, making it a perfect escape from the heat of the beaches.
The Journey Down the Stairs
The main draw and challenge of Nungnung is the descent. You must go down around 500 concrete steps that cut through green tropical forest. Going down is fairly easy, but the climb back up will test your stamina. Be ready to rest at the gazebos along the way.
What You Should Prepare
- Non-slip footwear as the steps are often wet and slippery from the spray.
- Drinking water for the uphill return.
- A change of clothes if you want to feel the cold spray directly.
- Arrive early for the best light and a quieter atmosphere.
Set aside around 1.5 to 2 hours to enjoy the full experience, including the trek down and back up. The sight of water crashing onto the rocks at the bottom is truly worth the effort.
