Is There inDrive, Maxim, or Uber in Bali?

There is no Uber in Bali. Uber sold its entire Southeast Asian business, Indonesia included, to Grab in March 2018, and its app stopped taking rides in the region in April 2018. Besides Grab and Gojek, the apps that do operate in Bali are inDrive and Maxim. Everything below was checked on 19 October 2026.

Has Uber come back to Indonesia?

No. As of October 2026 we found no official Uber announcement about returning to Indonesia. Your Uber account from home will not book rides in Bali. Uber users usually adapt fastest to Grab, since the flow is similar and foreign credit cards are generally accepted.

Is inDrive available in Bali?

Yes. inDrive officially expanded to Bali in February 2025 (Kontan) and opened its first Bali driver lounge in April 2025 (RRI Denpasar). It works differently from Grab and Gojek: you propose a fare, and drivers accept, decline, or counter. You pick from the offers that come in.

Haggling can pay off on long trips at quiet hours. The catch is that lowball offers often get no takers, especially at night or from remote spots. We found no data on how many inDrive drivers work in Bali. If no offer arrives within a few minutes, raise your price or switch apps.

Is Maxim available in Bali?

Yes. Maxim's official site (taximaxim.com) lists Denpasar and Gianyar as service cities, checked October 2026. Maxim offers motorbike and car rides, with an estimated fare shown before you book. We found no 2025-2026 news coverage specifically about Maxim's Bali operations, so check driver availability in the app before relying on it, especially outside Denpasar and Gianyar.

Is it cheaper than Grab and Gojek?

We found no official inDrive or Maxim fare table for Bali, so "always cheaper" cannot be proven. What is certain: for motorbike rides, every app falls under the same Ministry of Transportation fare band, KP 667 of 2022 for Zone I (which includes Bali), at Rp2,000-2,500 per km. Price gaps between apps mostly come from service fees, promos, and surge pricing in rain or rush hour.

Since 1 July 2026, app commissions on ride-hailing have been capped at 8% under Presidential Regulation No. 27 of 2026. That raises driver income; the price on your screen does not automatically drop. The practical move is to open two or three apps for the same route and compare the final number. Do the no-pickup zones apply to inDrive and Maxim too?

Yes. The "no online taxi" banners in Canggu, central Ubud, parts of Uluwatu, and around Padangbai harbour target all ride-hailing, not one brand. An inDrive or Maxim driver picking up there faces the same risk as a Grab driver. At Ngurah Rai Airport, Grab and Gojek have official counters and pickup points; we found no information on official counters for inDrive or Maxim. What about payment and safety?

• Carry cash. On inDrive the agreed fare is usually paid straight to the driver. Bring small notes, since drivers often cannot change a Rp100,000 bill.
• Sign up before you fly. New accounts are verified by OTP code. If your home number does not receive SMS while roaming, register at home or use a local SIM.
• Match the plate and the face. Only get in if the plate number, vehicle model, and driver photo match the app.
• Stay inside the app. If a driver asks you to cancel and pay a new cash price instead, you lose the trip record and the app's protection.
• Share your trip. Use location sharing or the emergency button where the app offers it, especially at night.
• Helmets on bikes. Ask for a passenger helmet; ojek drivers are required to carry one.

So which apps should you install?

For a short stay, Grab and Gojek remain the most practical, with official airport pickup points and the widest coverage of tourist routes. inDrive is worth having as a backup for long rides at quiet hours, when you have time to negotiate. Maxim is useful in Denpasar and Gianyar when the two big apps are surging. Uber you can cross off your list for Bali.
