Pinstripe Bar Ubud: Cocktail Prices, Live Jazz and What You'll Spend

A cocktail at Pinstripe Bar in Ubud costs IDR 230,000-250,000 (about USD 14-15) before 21% tax and service, according to the official September 2026 menu. The 1930s-style speakeasy sits inside the Viceroy Bali resort in Petulu, on the rim of the Petanu River valley, and opens daily from 4pm to 11.30pm. The bar is not new; the menu is.

What to order

The cocktail list is laid out like an exhibition: 20 drinks, several named after figures from 1930s Ubud. The Primitivist (for painter Walter Spies) uses Tanqueray No. TEN, coconut rum, pandan, lemongrass and clarified soy milk. The Prince (for Tjokorda Gde Agung Sukawati) mixes Courvoisier VSOP, jackfruit and wormwood smoke. If you cannot decide, the Negroni Flight or Martini Flight gives you three small glasses for IDR 400,000. Prohibition classics such as the Sidecar and Sazerac are IDR 230,000. Non-drinkers get four mocktails at IDR 110,000, and beer starts at IDR 90,000.

The kitchen runs 5pm-9pm. On the 16 September 2026 food menu, Belgian fries are IDR 70,000, yakitori IDR 160,000, crab curry IDR 240,000, the wagyu burger IDR 310,000, and 100g of Kagoshima A5 IDR 1.35 million.

When to go

Arrive around 5.30pm to sit on the rooftop terrace while the valley is still light. Fridays have live music from 7.30pm to 10.30pm; Saturdays bring saxophonist Arie Kurniawan from 8pm to 11pm with songs from the 70s to the 90s. Guest reviews on the bar's site say Fridays lean more towards jazz. Other nights are much quieter, which suits conversation.

Verdict

For carefully built cocktails and a marble-and-dark-wood room that feels like a film set, Pinstripe is one of the most polished bars in Ubud. The humidor holds more than 50 cigars and the cellar more than 400 wine labels. The drawbacks are plain: prices match Seminyak hotel bars, and it is in Petulu, outside central Ubud, reached by dark village roads. Cigar smoke on the terrace may bother some guests. The house rules printed in the menu say the bar keeps dress standards, so leave the gym shirt and flip-flops behind. They also ask that phones stay in pockets.
