Peguyangan Waterfall (Blue Stairs) Nusa Penida: Steep Cliff Staircase to Spring Pools & a Temple (Sarong Required, Parking ~Rp5–10k)

Peguyangan Waterfall, better known as the Blue Stairs, sits on the southwest side of Nusa Penida. This is not a classic curtain waterfall but a series of blue-painted cliff stairs clinging to the rock, descending steeply to natural spring pools and a temple (Pura) on the cliff edge facing the Indian Ocean. Spring water runs through the rocks, creating a dramatic blue scene against the open sea below.

A Sacred Site, Not Just a Photo Spot

Because there is a temple, this place is considered sacred for the local community. A sarong is required when descending the stairs — one is usually available to borrow at the top. Respect worshippers performing rituals, keep your voice down, and keep the atmosphere calm.

Descend With Care

The stairs are narrow, long, and open directly over the cliff. The wind often blows hard, and the view can trigger vertigo for those afraid of heights.

  • Hold the railing tightly, go one way, and give way to people coming up.
  • Wear anti-slip shoes and avoid slippery sandals.
  • Bring drinking water; there is no shop at the bottom.
  • Come early to avoid heat and crowds.
