Pantai Sanur is the perfect choice if you are after a calmer beach atmosphere in Bali. Set on the east coast, Sanur faces east, making it one of the best places on the island to watch the sunrise. Its waves are small and the water is shallow, making it friendly for families with children as well as beginners keen to try stand-up paddle (SUP) or a relaxed swim.
The Promenade and Activities
Sanur's signature feature is the paved promenade that stretches about 5 km from Mertasari Beach in the south to Matahari Terbit Beach in the north. This path links all of Sanur's beaches and is a favourite for easygoing activities.
- Sunrise: arrive around 05:30 at Matahari Terbit Beach for the silhouette of Mount Agung and the Nusa Islands.
- Walking & cycling: rent a bicycle along the path to explore the seafront.
- Food: a string of beachfront warungs and cafes for morning coffee or lunch.
- Calm water: ideal for SUP, swimming, and splashing about with kids.
Getting to Nusa Penida & Lembongan
Sanur is also the main port to the neighbouring islands. From Sanur Harbour, fast boats cross to Nusa Penida and Nusa Lembongan in just about 30–45 minutes.
- The harbour operates roughly 06:00–18:00 daily.
- Arrive at least 45 minutes before departure.
- Book boat tickets ahead during peak season.
