A plate of pork rice at Nasi Kajeng in Bangli costs Rp20,000 for the regular and Rp30,000 for the special (detikBali, October 2025). This home-based warung on Jalan Merdeka has been running for more than 40 years and is now in the hands of the third generation.
Why it is called Kajeng
The warung used to open only on Kajeng days, which come around every three days in the Balinese calendar. It now opens daily, but the family recipe is unchanged. One Google review notes that everything is still cooked over a wood fire.
What to order
The plate is all pork in a punchy base genep spice paste: lawar, satay, urutan (Balinese pork sausage), komoh (a spicy seasoned broth) and be genyol. Go for the special if you want more toppings. Sate lilit can be ordered separately. One Google reviewer paid Rp70,000 for two plates, eight sticks of sate lilit and two turmeric drinks.
The downsides
Everything on the menu is pork, so skip it if you avoid pork. The warung sits in the owner's house down an alley rather than a shopfront, so it is not wheelchair accessible. Restaurant directories list it as cash only. The seasoning is strong, and not every reviewer gives the food full marks.
Hours, location, parking
- Hours: 11.00-23.00 daily, sometimes until 00.00 if food remains. No sell-out time is documented; lunchtime is the safest bet for a full choice of dishes.
- Address: Jl. Merdeka No. 43, Bangli (down an alley, Banjar Blungbang). Open in Google Maps.
- Parking: no dedicated parking is documented; since it is inside a residential alley, stop cars on Jalan Merdeka and walk the last stretch.
- Instagram: @rm.nasikajeng.
It is close to Pura Kehen, so you can eat after visiting the temple. Coming from Penglipuran village, stop here on the way back south.
