Thousands of people pass the junction of Jalan Labuan Sait and Jalan Pantai Bingin every morning with boards strapped to their bikes, and almost none of them stop. Yet on that corner stands Drifter Surf Shop, Cafe & Gallery — an open-sided Javanese building that has long been the Bukit's surf culture headquarters.
Not Just a Cafe
Drifter was born in 2009 in Seminyak, founded by two surfers, Tim Russo and Jake MacKenzie. The Uluwatu branch folds three things under one roof: surf shop, cafe, and gallery. Up front sit curated surfboards and apparel carrying original artwork by artists such as Andy Davis and Chris Del Moro; at the back, near the gelato counter, is the gallery space complete with a library of surf books and memorabilia.
