If Lake Beratan feels too crowded, drive a little further west and you reach Lake Buyan — the largest of the Beratan–Buyan–Tamblingan trio, yet by far the quietest. Sitting in Pancasari village, Sukasada district, Buleleng, at roughly 1,200 metres above sea level, Buyan offers morning mist hanging over the water, wide grassy shores, and dense mountain forest.
Camping, Kayaking, and Morning Mist
The northern and eastern shores are among Bali's most popular camping spots. Many visitors arrive in the afternoon, pitch a tent facing the water, and wake to sunlight cutting through the fog. If you don't bring gear, tent rentals and glamping packages around Pancasari usually run about Rp150,000–250,000 per tent. Kayaks and small boats can also be hired along the shore.
The Buyan–Tamblingan Trek
The ridge trail linking Buyan and Tamblingan is the area's signature hike — roughly 2–3 hours at an easy pace through rainforest, rewarded by views of both lakes at once. Parts get slippery after rain, so grippy shoes are essential. Hiring a local guide from the nearby villages is strongly recommended.
