Where is it and how do you get there?
The hill sits on the slopes just north of Jalan Raya Candidasa, a few minutes' drive from the beachfront hotels. Sources name different villages (Sengkidu or Bugbug) because it lies near the boundary of both. The Karangasem tourism site uses the Pura Pandan area as its landmark; you park around there and continue on foot. From Sanur, Candidasa is usually about 1.5 hours by road.
Can a car make it?
Barely. The access road is a mix of stones and gravel, fine on a scooter but awkward for cars. Signage is minimal, so use a map app and ask locals if you are unsure.
How hard is the climb?
From the parking spot to the top is roughly a 15-minute walk on a footpath and natural grass steps. The incline is noticeable if you rarely exercise, but you need no special gear. After rain the grass and soil get slippery, so flip-flops are a poor choice.
Morning or afternoon?
Both work. From the ridge you can watch the sun rise over the sea and set behind the hills from the same spot. Mount Agung shows clearly only when the sky is clean, usually in the morning during the dry season. Midday is hot with almost no shade.
Is camping allowed?
Yes, with your own equipment. The Karangasem tourism site asks visitors to report to the village or neighbourhood head first, keep the area clean and respect local rules.
What are the downsides?
There is no stall, toilet or shelter at the top, so bring your own water and food. The unmarked trail makes a first visit slightly confusing. If you want a hill with full facilities and staged photo spots, this one will feel too bare.
Where to stay for a dawn visit?
