Bakas Levi Rafting: 7.5 km of Whitewater on Klungkung's Melangit River

At the western edge of Klungkung Regency, the Melangit River runs clear between green cliffs and the rice fields of Bakas village. This is where Bakas Levi Rafting has operated since 1995 under PT Bakas Aneka Citra Wisata Tirta, the first and most established rafting operator on the river. Unlike the always-busy Ayung or the powerful Telaga Waja, the Melangit offers a rare combination: closely spaced but manageable rapids, water far from any industrial area, and genuinely rural scenery the whole way down.

A 7.5 km Run With Dozens of Rapids

The put-in is at Banjar Kawan in Bakas village, and the take-out is at the operator's own restaurant. Along the way you pass natural rock walls, small waterfalls, and wild monkeys in the branches overhead.

  • Distance: about 7.5 kilometres, roughly 1.5 hours on the water.
  • Rapids: the operator counts more than 30 rapids with drops of 1–4 metres.
  • Difficulty: marketed anywhere from class II to IV depending on water levels, yet still beginner-friendly because the rapids are short.
  • Minimum age: sources quote 8–10 years; confirm first if you are bringing children.
  • Briefing: roughly 200 metres of paddle practice before the descent, led by an experienced river captain.

Prices, Facilities and Other Activities

  • Official operator rate: around Rp845,000 per adult and Rp560,000 per child, including air-conditioned hotel transfers, all equipment, a river guide, buffet lunch, a welcome drink, towels and insurance. Online bookings get a discount.
  • Through local agents without transport: a rafting-only package usually sells for about Rp250,000–350,000 per person.
  • On-site facilities: shower and changing rooms, storage for valuables, a restaurant overlooking the valley, and ample parking.
  • Extra activities: ATV rides, mountain cycling, kayaking, rice-field trekking and spa treatments.
  • A note on elephants: since early 2026 elephant-riding displays have been halted at every conservation institution in Indonesia under Circular Letter No. 6 of 2025 from the Director General of KSDAE. Older promotional material still lists elephant packages, so ask which animal activities are actually running when you book.

Getting There From Ubud, Kuta and Sanur

  • From Ubud: about 25 kilometres or 45–60 minutes via Gianyar and Sidan; pickups are usually 08:30–09:00.
  • From Kuta, Seminyak and Nusa Dua: roughly 1.5–2 hours, with morning pickups at 07:45–08:00.
