Spice by Blake Ubud: Menu, Prices, and Do You Need to Book?

At Spice by Blake in Ubud, one snack, one main and one cocktail come to about Rp400,000, or roughly Rp470,000 after the 17.7% tax and service charge, based on the menu uploaded to Chope dated 8 September 2026. The restaurant on Jl. Monkey Forest opens daily 4pm-1am, so there's no lunch.

Spice was opened by chef Chris Salans in 2015 and relaunched as Spice by Blake in July 2025 under Chef Blake Thornley, co-owner of Mozaic, according to What's New Indonesia (10 July 2025). Prices and hours below were checked on 27 October 2026 against Chope and The Honeycombers.

What to order and what it costs

• Snacks: duck nuggets Rp72k, rendang croquettes Rp85k, mushroom and jicama dumplings Rp75k (vegetarian).
• Skewers, per piece: chili chicken Rp42k, pork belly or miso black cod Rp52k, brisket Rp62k.
• Mains (all with multigrain coconut rice): beef nasi hijau Rp145k, brisket rawon with udon Rp185k, crispy duck leg Rp190k, wagyu rendang Rp225k, oxtail gulai Rp288k, Australian striploin Rp370k. Vegetarian mushroom, tempe and eggplant pepes Rp140k.
• Feed Me: Rp388k per person for 4 courses and 8 sharing dishes chosen by the kitchen, about Rp457k after the 17.7%.
• Drinks: every cocktail Rp135k, mocktails Rp65k, Bintang Rp60k, wine by the glass Rp98-115k.

The cocktails are by Bili Wirawan, built on local ingredients like snake fruit and jackfruit, and several use arak. If you're curious about arak, read the rules and risks of Balinese arak first. For scale, one Chope review from August 2026 reported a Rp1.75 million total including service for a family with kids, two beers and two cocktails.

The downsides

• The 17.7% surcharge is in small print under the menu. A Rp135k cocktail is really about Rp159k.
• Atmosphere scores lowest. On Chope it rates 4.0 for atmosphere against 4.6 for food (11 reviews). Don't expect rice-field views; it's a street-side restaurant in town.
• Access: Jl. Monkey Forest is congested in the late afternoon and car parking along the road is scarce. Walking from central Ubud or a Grab drop-off is easier.
• No daytime service. If lunch is your only slot in Ubud, try Hujan Locale or elsewhere.

Hours, location, booking

• Hours: Monday-Sunday 4pm-1am (Chope and The Honeycombers).
• Location: Spice by Blake on Google Maps, Jl. Monkey Forest, a few minutes' walk from the Sacred Monkey Forest. One older directory lists Jl. Goutama, so confirm the pin before heading out.
• Booking: via Chope, with slots up to 11pm. Book ahead for weekend dinners. Without a booking, arriving between 4pm and 6pm is the safest bet.

FAQ

Are there vegetarian options? Several, including the mushroom dumplings, Spice salad (S Rp89k, L Rp138k), mushroom pepes Rp140k and charred greens Rp120k.

Feed Me or order à la carte? Feed Me makes sense for two or more people who want to try a lot. If you eat light, a snack plus a main is cheaper.
