Half-Day Route to Tenun Trisna Weaving in Sidemen from Ubud

From Ubud, the Tenun Trisna Endek Sidemen workshop in Talibeng village is about 50-60 minutes away via Semarapura (around 30 km). You watch endek being woven on traditional looms, and the cloth sells for IDR 350,000-400,000 a piece according to a detikBali report from June 2026. The route below fits into half a day.

Hour-by-hour plan

• 7:30 Leave Ubud towards Klungkung, then climb Jl. Raya Sidemen.
• 8:30 Arrive at Tenun Trisna, Talibeng. Owner I Gusti Ngurah Made Suarba started in 2013 with two looms; today there are six looms and 40 workers. Come on a weekday morning so the weavers are at work. You see the process from preparing the yarn and printing the pattern to weaving, plus a traditional Balinese house compound.
• 9:30 Shop if you like. One endek cloth takes about a month from yarn to finish (the weaving itself about a day and a half), so the choice of motifs is limited.
• 9:45 Drive about 15 minutes to central Sidemen and the Iseh rice valley. Walk the paddy dikes for 1-1.5 hours before clouds cover Mount Agung.
• 11:30 Lunch at a warung or cafe along Sidemen's main road.
• 13:00 Head back to Ubud (about an hour) or stay the night.

From Candidasa the drive is about 45 minutes, from Amed about 1.5 hours; shift the times to suit your starting point.

What to know before you go

• This is a working home workshop, not a museum. Most visitors so far have come with travel agents before a Sidemen trek, so if you arrive independently, ask first and do not photograph the weavers without asking.
• No entry fee, opening hours or class fee is published anywhere. Instagram @tenun_trisna lists 8:30 am-6 pm, but undated; send a message before you set out.
• Bring cash if you want to buy cloth; payment methods are not listed.
• The Klungkung-Sidemen road is winding and narrow in places. If you are not used to village roads, hire a car with a driver.
