RM Rajawali Klungkung: Smoked Chicken Since 1980, Prices and Hours

RM Rajawali at Jl. Gunung Rinjani No. 11, Semarapura, opens daily 07.00-14.30 WITA and has sold ayam Klungkung, smoked free-range chicken in a spicy Balinese paste, since 1980. A plate starts at about Rp25,000 according to detikBali (April 2026).

What to order

The menu on its official site is short: Ayam Klungkung (smoked chicken with spicy Balinese spice paste, available not spicy, medium, spicy or extra spicy), Ayam Rajang (smoked chicken with chopped spice paste), Ayam Panggang Bali (Balinese roast chicken) and Nasi Campur Khas Rajawali. On a first visit, the nasi campur makes the most sense because you taste several chicken preparations on one plate. Several Google reviewers note that a half portion can be ordered and is still filling.

How much you will spend

Google reviews that list a cost usually say Rp25,000-50,000 per person. In 2022 IDN Times recorded Rp15,000 for takeaway and Rp25,000 to eat in, so those older figures are no longer a reliable guide. The price of a whole chicken to take home is not published; ask via the WhatsApp button on the official site. Restaurant Guru's listing marks the place as cash only, so bring enough cash (checked September 2026).

When to go, and the drawbacks

Because it closes at 14.30, Rajawali only works for breakfast or lunch. If you come down from Besakih in the late afternoon, the kitchen will already be shut. The default spice level is fierce for unaccustomed palates, so ask for "tidak pedas" (not spicy) from the start. It is a plain eating house, not somewhere to linger. There is no official parking information; Jl. Gunung Rinjani is an ordinary town street, so expect roadside parking.

One more thing: the official site states that Rajawali has no branches outside Klungkung. Plenty of warungs use the name "ayam Klungkung", so the one you see in Denpasar or Kuta is not this place. If you have time after eating, Mek Metar serombotan is in the same town, and Semarapura Market is good for a short walk.
