Pantai Melasti is one of the hidden gems of the Ungasan area in South Bali, not far from Uluwatu. What makes it special is not only the fine white sand and clear blue-green water, but also the journey to get there: a smooth paved road winding directly through limestone (karst) cliffs dozens of meters high. The sight of the white rock wall splitting toward the sea is an icon in itself, even before you set foot on the sand.
Why Pantai Melasti Is Different
Unlike its neighboring beaches that sit at the foot of steep cliffs and require descending many steps, Melasti is relatively easy to access because vehicles can drive down close to the shoreline. The coastline is fairly wide at low tide, with a few natural pools among the rocks. The atmosphere here feels more open and spacious than other beaches around Uluwatu.
- Wide white sand that broadens at low tide, perfect for leisurely walks and photos.
- Dramatic limestone cliffs along the entrance road — a favorite photo spot.
- Beach clubs & warungs in the upper area to relax while enjoying the ocean view.
- Clear water for swimming in safe areas, but stay aware of currents and reef.
Visiting Tips
- Best time: late afternoon near sunset, or early morning when it is still quiet and the light is soft.
- Bring: sunscreen, drinking water, a hat, and comfortable footwear; carry cash for parking and tickets.
- Duration: about 2–3 hours is enough to enjoy the beach and the upper area.
- Be careful at high tide, as part of the sand can be covered and the surf strengthens.
