Ubud is all rice fields and yoga, but 30–40 minutes north there is a far muddier version of it. Bali Quad Discovery Tours in Payangan, Gianyar, has been running off-road trips since 1999 and offers one of the longest ATV trails on the island: about 25 km of mostly unsealed track through rice fields, plantations, riverbeds, mud pits and the lanes of two traditional villages around Desa Kerta.
25 Kilometres Across Five Types of Terrain
The full session takes roughly 2–2.5 hours, including an instruction video, a short practice lap on a training circuit and several photo stops. You drive yourself, with guides riding at the front and the back of the group.
- Quad fleet: CForce 450L — fully automatic 4x4 with power steering and independent rear suspension, rated for around 250 kg or two adults.
- Buggy fleet: CF ZForce 500, automatic 4x4, two side-by-side seats inside a roll cage.
- After the ride: hot showers, towels, soap, lockers, plus coffee and traditional snacks. Protective rain gear is provided if it rains.
Single, Tandem or Buggy?
- Single: one rider per quad. The most freedom to set your own pace and the most fun in the mud.
- Tandem: two people on one quad, one driving and one riding pillion at a lower rate. Ideal for couples or a parent with a child.
- Buggy: side-by-side seating with seatbelts and no need to balance. The friendliest option for beginners and families.
- Age: drivers must be at least 16; children can still join as passengers on a child rate.
Explorer or Discovery? What It Costs
- Quad Explorer (about 1 hour, no transfer or lunch): around Rp1 million per driver, adult passenger about Rp595,000, child about Rp495,000.
- Quad Discovery (about 2 hours, the full 25 km trail, including air-conditioned hotel transfers and a hot buffet lunch): around Rp1.6–1.7 million per driver, passenger about Rp1 million, child about Rp835,000.
- Through Klook, GetYourGuide or Viator the Discovery package usually lands in the Rp1.2–1.7 million per person range including transfers. There are also 2-in-1 packages pairing a quad or buggy with canyon tubing.
