Hidden on the east coast of Nusa Penida, Atuh Beach is one of Bali's most dramatic white-sand beaches. This small cove is framed by tall cliffs, natural rock arches, and a cluster of rocky islets including the towering Batu Abah offshore. Unlike its neighbor Diamond Beach, Atuh offers a wider stretch of sand and calm turquoise water that's fine for a relaxed swim at low tide.
Getting Down to the Beach
From the parking area above, visitors must descend hundreds of steep cliff steps. The walk down takes around 10–15 minutes and feels much harder on the way back up. The path is concreted with handrails but can be slippery when wet.
- Wear non-slip sandals or shoes
- Bring enough drinking water, especially for the climb back
- Come in the morning (8–10 AM) for good light and cooler air
What to Enjoy
Besides swimming and sunbathing, this spot is a favorite for photos with the rock arch and islets in the background. A few simple warungs on the clifftop sell fresh coconuts and snacks. Waves can get strong at high tide, so check sea conditions before swimming.
