Junsei is closed every Monday. That is the first thing to know before planning a night at this London-born yakitori izakaya, which opened at Jl. Danau Tamblingan No. 49 in Sanur around April-May 2026. A few other details are easy to miss.
1. The hours differ between sources
Junsei's official site lists Tuesday-Thursday 5pm-midnight, Friday-Saturday 11.30am-midnight and Sunday 11.30am-10pm. A NOW! Bali article from May 2026 gives shorter hours (closing at 11pm). If you plan a Sunday night or a visit after 10pm, call first.
2. Junsei and Tamba are two separate rooms
Junsei is the izakaya with binchotan charcoal grills. Tamba by Junsei, next door, opened on 15 July 2026: a Japanese tea room from 10am to 5pm, then a vinyl listening bar from 5pm until late, Tuesday to Sunday. If you mainly want drinks and records, say "Tamba" when you book.
3. The bill adds up by the skewer
According to the food menu linked from the official site (checked September 2026), organic chicken yakitori is IDR 28k per skewer, rare cuts IDR 35k, pork belly IDR 46k and vegetables IDR 17-24k. Snacks such as the Balinese black pig katsu sandwich cost IDR 100-120k. The chef's omakase is IDR 600k. None of this includes 10% tax and 8% service. Five or six skewers, one snack and two drinks easily pass IDR 500k (about US$31) per person.
4. The cocktails are built on fermentation
Tamba's list was created by head bartender Dedi Mulyadi around umami, with drinks like Quiet Path (with koji), Burnt Rice (roasted rice syrup) and Umetini (kombu vermouth). The drinks list linked from Junsei's site shows cocktails at roughly IDR 125-200k; some pages carry the Jakarta branch logo, so treat those numbers as a range.
5. Check happy hour and theme nights again
When Tamba opened, FoodieS reported a 5-7pm buy-one-get-one cocktail happy hour, plus Wax Wednesdays (open-deck vinyl), Flip Friday and Highball Hi-Fi Saturdays. Programmes like this change often; look at the official Instagram before you go.
6. This is not a party venue
A listening bar is made for hearing the music and talking quietly. It suits groups who want to dance or hear loud DJs poorly, and Sanur nights usually end earlier than Canggu's. Other bars in the area are in our Sanur and Ubud nightlife guide.
7. One address, one chef, three concepts
Junsei's executive chef Aman Lakhiani is also chef-owner of Lamuri, a South Indian and Sumatran restaurant at the same address. If Junsei is full, you do not have to change streets.
