Expat. Roasters Seminyak: Indonesian Single-Origin Coffee in Petitenget

In the Petitenget pocket of Seminyak, Expat. Roasters has long been a required stop for serious coffee drinkers. The roastery was founded in 2016 by Shae Macnamara, an Australian barista who won the Australian Coffee in Good Spirits Championship before making Indonesia his second home. The concept is simple but consistent: Australian cafe culture meeting Indonesian beans roasted in-house.

Indonesian Single Origins, Roasted In-House

Most of the beans come from Indonesian farmers — Bali, Sumatra and Sulawesi — and are processed at the company’s own roastery. At the Petitenget brew bar you can compare the character of each region in a single visit.

  • Espresso & milk-based: flat white, latte and cappuccino built on a house blend that leans bold but balanced.
  • Filter/manual brew: hand brews that show the single origins cleanly; ask the barista about the latest release.
  • Creative coffee menu: the founder’s Coffee in Good Spirits background shows in the signature drinks.
  • Retail beans: take-home bags roughly Rp25k–165k depending on size and origin.

Brunch and Something to Go With It

Opening at 6.30am, it suits breakfast before the beach or an early work session. The food list is short: banana bread with espresso butter and a chocolate-filled ciambella doughnut at around Rp40k each, a chocolate-almond brownie around Rp25k, plus warm brunch plates. The room is small and busy between 8am and 11am, so arrive early if you want a table.

Coffee Classes for Visitors

Expat. Roasters also runs barista training, from the one-day Foundations of Coffee (around Rp1.5 million) and Sensory Refinement (around Rp2.5 million) to three-day and one-month programmes. Places are limited, so ask about availability well ahead.
