Segara Village Hotel Sanur: The Kompiang Family’s Beachfront Garden Bungalows

In Sanur, genuinely old hotels can be counted on one hand. Segara Village Hotel on Jalan Segara Ayu is one of them: a five-hectare property owned by the Kompiang family that is not a room tower but a cluster of bungalows split across several numbered villages. The gardens are mature, the trees are tall, and the beach is right out front.

From 10 Bungalows in 1967

The hotel’s own website tells the story: Mr and Mrs Kompiang bought a seaside plot in Sanur in the early 1950s and built a 127-room hotel, the first of its kind in the area. In the 1960s Mr Kompiang was asked by President Soekarno to run Bali Beach Hotel, so the family moved to Jakarta. They came back in 1967 and rebuilt directly across from the old hotel with 10 bungalows and a Sanur village-community concept. That is where today’s Segara Village grew from.

Rooms, Rates and the 2026–2027 Renovation

  • Deluxe Room — 50 units, 35 sqm, published rates from about Rp 1.54 million per night.
  • Bungalow Room — 39 units, 45 sqm, from about Rp 2.35 million; the most “Segara Village” category, with an open terrace or balcony facing the garden.
  • Family Bungalow — 8 two-storey units in Village 4, 80 sqm, from about Rp 4.77 million. The hotel itself flags the outdoor stairs, so it is not ideal for children under 12.
  • Renovation: the Deluxe rooms in Village 1 and The Segara@Village 2 are being upgraded from April 2026 until roughly January 2027. The rest of the property stays open and work is limited to business hours, but light sleepers should ask for a room away from Villages 1 and 2.

Why It Works for Families

  • A main swimming pool plus a shallow kids pool, a kids club, a wooden playground and a tennis court inside the grounds.
  • Byrd Spa & Wellness, an open-air jacuzzi bar and an ice bath — modern additions to an old property.
  • Byrd House Bali restaurant (Italian–Mediterranean) faces the beach; it is quietest around 3–5pm before the sunset crowd arrives.
  • Direct access to Pantai Sanur and Pantai Matahari Terbit, right on the Sanur beachfront promenade.
  • Pasar Sindhu is about a 5-minute walk; Pelabuhan Sanur for fast boats to Nusa Penida roughly 10 minutes along the sand; Ngurah Rai Airport 12.5 km.

Honestly, this is not a new design resort. Some rooms feel their age and the architecture is distinctly 1970s–1990s. The value sits in the garden, the generous open space and a true beachfront position at rates well below the luxury resorts next door.
