Blayag Mek Sambru, Amlapura: Still Open, From IDR15k

Blayag Mek Sambru on Jl. Raya Gajah Mada in Amlapura still made detikBali's list of legendary eateries on 19 April 2026: open daily from noon to 7pm, with prices from IDR15k. Ni Made Sambru started the stall in 1967, and it has never moved from the same shopfront on the roadside. She began selling in her early twenties, copying the blayag her mother made at home, and when detikBali interviewed her in 2022 (aged 78) she planned to hand it on to her children and grandchildren.

What blayag is and what you get

Blayag is similar to ketupat rice cake, but it is wrapped in young coconut or ambu leaves in an oval shape instead of being woven. At Mek Sambru you pick your own toppings: ayam tok-tok, fried chicken, chicken curry, chicken sate, egg, tempeh, plecing, urab and saur, then it gets a ladle of coconut milk broth. detikBali's 2022 report counted 150-200 portions sold a day.

Price and when to go

There are two figures. The August 2022 report gave IDR20k for a full dine-in plate and IDR10k and up for takeaway. The April 2026 list says "from IDR15k". Budget about IDR15-25k for a full plate and bring cash (checked October 2026). The stall opens at noon, so come early if you want the full choice of toppings.

The drawback

Seating is very limited. In the 2022 report, a group of visitors once had to sit on the floor because the chairs ran out. The toppings are chicken-based, but no halal certification is on record.
