Just about a 30-minute drive from central Ubud, in Kemenuh Village, Gianyar, Tegenungan Waterfall spills a curtain of water more than a dozen meters wide into a greenish natural pool. It is one of the most accessible waterfalls in Bali because it is not perched in the high mountains, making it ideal for travelers who want the waterfall thrill without hours of trekking.
Down to the Gorge Floor by Concrete Stairs
From the parking area and the row of warungs above, you descend roughly 160 concrete steps winding along the cliff. The way down takes only 5–10 minutes, but save your breath for the climb back up. At the bottom, wooden and stone paths lead straight to the pool at the foot of the falls.
- Swimming: the main pool is fairly deep and the current is strong near the cascade — swim along the calmer edge.
- Non-slip sandals: the rocks stay slick from spray all day.
- Photo spots: the bridge and viewing deck offer the best angles for the wide curtain of water.
Cliff Cafes & Views from Above
Along the cliff edge sit several cafes and viewing decks such as Tegenungan D'Tukad, with swings and bird-nest props for photos. You can enjoy coffee or fresh coconut while admiring the falls from height without going down — ideal for anyone whose knees aren't up to the stairs.
Tickets & Best Hours
Entry costs around Rp 20,000–25,000 per person, plus cheap parking. Come at opening, around 8–10 a.m., to dodge tour groups and catch softer light. Avoid heavy rainy spells, as the flow can turn the water murky and the current dangerous. Allow 1.5–2 hours here.
