Taman Sari Waterfall, Bakbakan, Gianyar: A 100 m² Natural Pool Built by the Village Banjar

Taman Sari Waterfall lies in Banjar Ngenjung Sari, Bakbakan village, Gianyar district—about an hour’s drive from Denpasar. Its main draw is a natural pool of roughly 100 m² beneath the falls, ringed by dense trees and safe for adults to swim in. Villagers built the facilities with around IDR 400 million from their own community fund, opened the site on 28 September 2019, and detikBali covered it again in January 2026.

What You Get

  • A main natural pool 110–165 cm deep; a sluice gate at its end is closed in the morning so the pool fills up, then reopened in the afternoon.
  • A second pool right under the waterfall, plus a 50 cm-deep artificial pool for children.
  • A waterfall on a forested cliff that detikBali puts at around 60-odd metres high, with photo spots and tiered seating facing the pool.
  • The manager says about 80% of visitors are foreign tourists, averaging 100-plus people on weekdays and 200-plus at weekends.

Tickets, Hours & Facilities

  • Tickets (detikBali, January 2026): foreign adults IDR 30k, children IDR 20k; domestic adults IDR 20k, children IDR 15k. Some directories still show older, lower rates.
  • Open daily 6am–6pm (WITA); closed on Nyepi.
  • Easy access: roughly a five-minute walk down stairs with handrails from the car park.
  • Changing rooms with rinse showers, sit-down toilets and gazebos; travel directories also list locker rental at about IDR 10k and float rings at about IDR 15k.

Safety Tips & Itinerary

  • Come early, before the pool gets busy.
  • The dry season (roughly April–October) is the most comfortable time to swim; after heavy rain the water can rise and turn murky, so follow staff instructions.
  • The rocks are slippery: wear strapped sandals and watch children while they swim.
  • Pair it with Goa Rang Reng Waterfall (about 1.5 km away) and nearby Tibumana Waterfall on the Bangli border in a single morning.
