Munduk Waterfall (Red Coral): Routes from Lovina, Singaraja, Munduk

Munduk Waterfall, labelled Red Coral Waterfall on many maps, is only a 15-20 minute downhill walk from a roadside car park on the Munduk main road. Timing is what matters: arrive before 9am and you can still stand in front of the falls without queueing for photos.

Leaving from Lovina

  • 7:00 leave Kalibukbuk. The usual route runs via Seririt or Banjar, then climbs to Munduk. Google Maps typically estimates about 1-1.25 hours. The climb has tight hairpins, so inexperienced scooter riders are safer with a driver.
  • 8:15 reach the roadside parking (usually Rp2,000-5,000). From here a concrete path and steps drop about 500-650 m.
  • 8:35-9:45 at the falls. At normal flow the pool is shallow and people stand close to the curtain of water.
  • 10:15 back at the car park. The return is uphill, allow 20-30 minutes.

Leaving from Singaraja

Head towards Gitgit, climb to Wanagiri on the ridge above Lakes Buyan and Tamblingan, then drop down to Munduk. Allow roughly 1.25-1.5 hours. Leave at 6:45 to beat tour cars from Ubud and the south, which need more than two hours to get here.

Staying in Munduk

From the village centre the car park is a few minutes' drive. A slower option is a guided walk from your guesthouse. The Buana Lestari tourism group lists a Red Coral trek on the Ministry of Tourism's Jadesta portal from Rp200,000, about 2 hours, through clove, coffee, vanilla and avocado gardens, returning on a different path past two more waterfalls. An early start is far easier if you sleep in Munduk, and you can compare North Bali stay vouchers on AccessiaPass first.

Tickets and Hours

  • Open 7am-6pm WITA according to detikBali.
  • Prices differ between sources. detikBali lists Rp20,000 per person, catatanjalanan.com (2026) gives Rp20,000 for Indonesians and Rp40,000 for foreigners, and English-language travel blogs from 2025-2026 report Rp45,000. Carry about Rp50,000 cash per person (checked October 2026).

Where to Go Next

On the same trail you can walk to Melanting Waterfall (around Rp20,000) and Golden Valley (reported free as of 2025). Labuhan Kebo, with its 150 steps, is usually quieter. Have lunch in Munduk around noon, then head back to Lovina or Singaraja before the afternoon rain that often hits these highlands, especially November-March.

The Downsides

This is the busiest waterfall on the Munduk circuit, and by late morning the pool area is full of people taking photos. The steps are slippery after rain, the climb back is hard on the knees, and the path is impossible with a wheelchair or pram. In the wet season the flow is strong and muddy, so don't stand directly under the falling water.

Location and Contacts

Wear hiking sandals or rubber-soled shoes and pack a folding raincoat. Fog can roll into Munduk within minutes.
