NARI Ubud: Wood-Fire Bistro Above Gunung Lebah Temple

A plate of pasta at NARI Ubud costs IDR 120-160k and a steak IDR 655-775k, plus 10% tax and 6.5% service, according to the night menu on its official website (checked October 2026). The wood-fire bistro sits upstairs in the Jl. Raya Campuhan building that once housed the old Beggar's Bush bar, right above Pura Gunung Lebah and the Campuhan valley.

NARI has been open since 2025, so it is not a 2026 opening. It is back in the conversation because Honeycombers put it on its best Ubud dinner restaurants list, updated in August 2026. The kitchen is led by chef Manuel Effendi (formerly of Mama San), according to a Bali Food & Travel review.

What to order and what it costs

• Starters: woodfired bread with noisette butter IDR 50k, smoked burrata IDR 155k, charred octopus IDR 145k, beef tartare IDR 125k.
• Pasta and mains: pipe rigate alla vodka IDR 160k, chili prawn linguini IDR 155k, charcoal barramundi IDR 175k, duck frites IDR 185k, urutan (smoked Balinese sausage) IDR 165k.
• Steak: 250 g Angus picanha IDR 655k, roughly 600 g rendang short rib IDR 725k, 300 g ribeye IDR 775k.
• Cocktails: espresso martini IDR 135k, Nari Negroni IDR 150k, amaretto sour IDR 155k.
• Vegetarian: a separate menu, e.g. falafel flatbread IDR 110k and bucatini cacio e pepe IDR 120k.

Rough maths: bread, one pasta and one cocktail come to about IDR 360k, so around IDR 420k per person (roughly US$26) after tax and service. Several dishes are marked as containing pork, including the octopus (it has lardo) and the urutan.

When to go

The terrace faces west over the valley, so late afternoon is the busiest time. NOW! Bali reported a Ridge Hour from 4.30 to 6.30pm pairing a Cempaka Spritz with warm bread from the oven; ask when you book whether it still runs. Opening hours differ between sources: the homepage says 12pm-11pm, while the night-menu page and Honeycombers say 4pm-11pm, with last orders at 10pm.

The downsides

• The dining room is upstairs and reached by stairs, which makes it hard for wheelchair users or anyone who struggles with steps.
• Steaks start above IDR 650k before tax; on a tighter budget, the pasta and grilled vegetables make more sense.
• Jl. Raya Campuhan is narrow and winds near the bridge. One review mentions valet staff, but a scooter taxi or a walk from central Ubud is simpler.
