Sababay Winery, Gianyar: Winery Tour & Wine Tasting with Grapes from Buleleng Farmers

Yes, Bali has its own winery. Sababay Winery in Keramas, Blahbatuh, Gianyar—near Saba Bay, which inspired its name—turns grapes grown by north Bali farmers into wine and opens its production facility to visitors. It is about a 30-minute drive from Sanur.

From Buleleng Vineyards to Fermentation Tanks

Sababay was founded in 2010 with a mission to help Buleleng grape growers earn a fairer price. According to detikBali, the grapes are harvested from farms in Banjar, Seririt and Gerokgak. The official website names Alphonse Lavallée and Muscat Saint Vallier as its signature varieties, and since 2023 Sababay has also used Bali-grown Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz. Winemaker Guillaume Quéron, who honed his craft in the vineyards of Bordeaux, has led production since 2022.

Good to know: the vineyards are in north Bali, not in Keramas. The tour here focuses on the production facility—processing machines, fermentation tanks and the bottling line—plus a small garden where the tastings take place.
