Opened in the 1980s on the cliffs above the Ayung River, Kupu Kupu Barong Villas & Tree Spa in Kedewatan was one of Ubud's first luxury resorts. Around three hectares of tropical garden spill down the slope while split-level villas look straight into the valley and its terraced rice fields. The property also trades today as Kupu Kupu Barong Resort and Tree Spa.
Villas and Suites Available
- Pool View Suite — the most affordable option, facing the main pool and dense greenery.
- Duplex Villa and Duplex Pool Villa — two levels with a separate sitting area, some with a private plunge pool.
- River View Pool Villa and Ayung River Front Pool Villa — the most dramatic river panoramas on the property.
- Family Pool Villa — a king bedroom plus a twin bedroom, ideal for families.
Tree Spa and the Hillside Pool
- Mango Tree Spa offers Balinese massage and natural body treatments; the resort has long been associated with L'OCCITANE products.
- The main swimming pool perches on the slope against a backdrop of Ayung valley forest.
- A stairway leads down to the riverbank — beautiful, but be ready for a long climb back up.
Dining with a Valley View

- The Kupu Breakfast and romantic dinner setups on your own villa terrace.
