Hidden Garden Agriculture Baturiti: How to Get There Without a Tour

You can visit Hidden Garden Agriculture in Mekarsari village, Baturiti, on your own without a tour: entry is free, parking is free and it opens daily from 08.00 to 18.00, according to Bali Holiday Secrets (page updated 25 June 2026, checked 20 October 2026). The small coffee and tea garden sits on the Baturiti-Mekarsari road, roughly 35 km from Ubud and 40 km from Canggu.

Getting there from Ubud and Canggu

• From Ubud: about 1 hour west to the main Denpasar-Bedugul road, then uphill to Baturiti. The climb before Baturiti is long; a small automatic scooter with two riders will struggle.
• From Canggu: a little over 1 hour via Mengwi, then north on the Denpasar-Bedugul road. Leave before 09.00 to avoid crawling behind trucks on the climb.
• Grab/Gojek: fine for the ride up, but the garden is far from any busy area. Ask the driver to wait or arrange your ride back in advance.

What you get inside

Staff walk you through a short spice garden loop, then bring a tray of 12 coffee and tea samples at no charge, such as avocado coffee, coconut coffee, turmeric tea and rosella tea. Kopi luwak is not included; a cup costs around Rp50,000 (about US$3). Most visits take 30-60 minutes.

Before you decide to stop

• Every sample comes pre-sweetened and, according to Bali Holiday Secrets, you cannot ask for it without sugar.
• Swings and photo packages cost extra, from around Rp300,000; dress rental is Rp150,000.
• The tour ends at the coffee shop. Tour drivers usually earn commission at places like this, so arriving independently makes it easier to say no.
• Everything is open-air with no air conditioning, and the buildings look worn; midday gets hot.
• Bali Holiday Secrets says the civet here is not caged. We could not verify that independently, so read our notes on kopi luwak ethics before ordering.

Verdict: worth a 45-minute break on the way to Jatiluwih or Ulun Danu Beratan Temple, not worth a special trip from Uluwatu. If you want to reach Jatiluwih before the morning mist lifts, a night in the Baturiti or Penebel area on an AccessiaPass hotel voucher makes the schedule far easier.
