Festival Semarapura, Klungkung: guía del Festival Puputan

Every 28 April, Klungkung marks the Puputan Klungkung of 1908 and the founding of Semarapura town with Festival Semarapura, the regency government’s annual celebration around the Puputan Klungkung Monument and the Ida Dewa Agung Jambe square. The 8th edition ran 28 April–1 May 2026.

What Happened at the 8th Edition (2026)

• Theme “Smarana Atita Prabha” — light from the memory of the past; listed under Karisma Event Nusantara (KEN) 2026.
• Four days of culture: mass Adi Merdangga percussion, children’s and women’s gong kebyar, drama gong, genjek, and the Jegeg Bagus Klungkung pageant.
• Mini ogoh-ogoh and lontar-writing contests, a job fair, plus a Pop Bali stage with Lolot Band and Triple X.
• 130 stalls of small businesses and food; about 67,000 visitors and over IDR 2 billion in transactions.

When Is the Next Edition?

• It usually opens exactly on 28 April, so the 2027 edition is expected around 28 April–1 May 2027; official dates are not announced yet.
• Crowds peak from late afternoon into the night; arrive before 4pm, as parts of the town centre are diverted.

• Kerta Gosa and the Semarajaya Museum share the monument complex: open roughly 8am–5pm, adult tickets about IDR 25,000 including sarong and sash.
• Pasar Seni Semarapura for endek and songket textiles; try serombotan, the Klungkung vegetable dish.
• Semarapura is about 1 hour from Ubud or Sanur and 1.5–2 hours from Kuta, on the way to Kusamba and Padangbai.
