Dream Beach & Sandy Bay, Nusa Lembongan: Cliff-Backed Coves with the Most Dramatic Surf

On the southwest side of Nusa Lembongan, Dream Beach offers a view you rarely get on mainland Bali: a narrow white-sand cove framed by high limestone cliffs, with Indian Ocean swell rolling in completely unobstructed. Right next door, Sandy Bay is a slightly calmer version, complete with warungs and a beach club perched on the cliff edge.

Strong Surf, Not a Beach for Kids

Understand this first: Dream Beach is not a relaxed swimming beach. The rip currents and shorebreak are powerful, and the sand shelves steeply so waves break right at the water's edge. Most visitors simply paddle at the shoreline, take photos, or sunbathe. With small children, Mushroom Bay or the clifftop beach-club pool is far safer. There is no permanent lifeguard here, so judge the sea for yourself before going in.

Access, Tickets, and Best Time

• Distance: about 15 minutes by scooter from Jungut Batu along narrow concrete lanes; scooter rental is easy to find at the harbour.
• Ticket & parking: a small community-run fee, roughly Rp5,000–10,000 per person or per scooter.
• Getting down: concrete steps lead from the car park to the sand; they can be slippery after rain.
• Best time: late afternoon towards sunset, when warm light hits the cliffs.

Sandy Bay, Cliff Warungs, and Devil's Tear

A few steps south lies Sandy Bay Beach Club, with an ocean-facing pool and a lunch menu, while simple warungs line the cliff selling young coconuts, nasi goreng, and cold drinks at far friendlier prices. From Dream Beach, Devil's Tear is only a 5–10 minute walk: a rocky inlet where waves explode into spray several metres high, the obvious companion stop for the same afternoon.
