Bawang Merah Jimbaran: What Does It Cost and Is It Halal?

The cheapest way to eat seafood at Bawang Merah Beachfront Restaurant on Kelan Beach, Jimbaran, is the Seafood Mini package at Rp350,000, before a 6% service charge and 10% tax. Prices below follow the list the restaurant updated in August 2026, checked in September 2026.

How much for two?

Seafood Mini includes soup, 600 g of grilled fish, 3 prawns, 3 grilled squid, 5 clams, urab vegetables, rice and fruit. Seafood Dinner is Rp350k without lobster or Rp500k with 300 g of lobster, and Lobster Dinner is Rp900k. Packages for two run from Rp1.3 million (Ingke) to Rp2.85 million (Royal Family Honeymoon). Two Seafood Mini packages come to roughly Rp810,000-820,000 after service and tax, before drinks. Note that the FAQ page on the same site still quotes Rp400k without lobster and Rp700k with lobster, so ask for the printed menu when you arrive.

What does it cost by the kilo?

Fresh fish (red snapper, white snapper, grouper) is Rp500k/kg and live fish Rp600k/kg. King prawns are Rp500k/kg, squid Rp500k/kg, clams Rp150k/kg and live crab Rp600-900k/kg depending on size. Fresh lobster is Rp1.5 million/kg and live lobster Rp1.7 million/kg, so a 700 g lobster alone is over Rp1 million before tax. Ask for the weight before it goes on the grill.

Is it halal?

The restaurant answers this itself on its official site: it is not halal-certified and does not slaughter according to Islamic law, but there is no pork in the kitchen and no alcohol in the cooking. It is also upfront that the same glasses are used for alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, and that it cannot rule out minor non-halal ingredients in bottled sauces. If you need strictly halal food, choose somewhere else.

Do you need a reservation?

Walk-ins are welcome. Groups of 15 or more must book. For a front-row table at sunset, book via WhatsApp on the official site; the WhatsApp line is listed as 10.00-19.00.

Opening hours, and the downsides?

Open daily 12.00-22.00. Kelan Beach sits at the northern end of Jimbaran Bay, right next to Ngurah Rai Airport, so landing aircraft are clearly visible and audible. Some diners love that, but if you want a quiet dinner the jet noise can intrude. Prices are also clearly above buying fish and having it grilled at Kedonganan Fish Market just to the south. On the plus side: ample free parking in front, 10-15 minutes from the airport, and payment by Visa, Mastercard, QRIS or cash.

What time should you arrive?
