Entry to Goa Gong Waterfall in Banjar Batulantang, Sulangai village, Petang, is Rp30,000 for adults and Rp15,000 for children (as noted in July 2025, and a December 2025 Google review still quotes 30k). It sits about 2 km from Nungnung Waterfall in Pelaga, where the ticket is around Rp20,000 as of 2026. Two waterfalls in the highlands of north Badung, one valley, very different experiences.
Stairs: 10-15 minutes versus 500 steps
Nungnung Waterfall is known for its roughly 500 steps: about 15 minutes down and 30 minutes back up, breathing hard. Goa Gong takes 10-15 minutes down steep concrete steps through clove, coffee and cacao gardens. A February 2026 review calls the path narrow and muddy, so a walking stick helps. If your knees complain, Goa Gong is clearly easier.
The falls and the pool
Nungnung is taller and much more powerful; the spray soaks you from a distance, and swimming beneath it is not advised in the rainy season. Goa Gong is smaller. budayabali (April 2025) gives 25 metres, while Bali Post (2022) wrote 10-15 metres. The pool is wide enough for a soak, there are shallow rock pools for kids, and according to the Badung tourism office (November 2025) there is a small cave behind the water.
Crowds
Nungnung is now an Instagram favourite; come very early if you want it quiet. Goa Gong is usually close to empty on weekdays. Weekends are a little busier, and weekday mornings before 11am are the quietest.
Goa Gong's downsides
- No toilets, food stall or changing area according to 2025 visitor notes, although Bali Post listed those facilities in 2022. Bring water and a change of clothes.
- Steps are slippery when wet, and in September 2025 a fallen tree blocked part of the path.
- One visitor warned of a large overhanging rock on the left side of the falls. Do not stand directly beneath it.
- You may have to go and find the ticket attendant (December 2025 review).
- Opening hours are inconsistent: a visitor blog says 7am-6pm, while budayabali notes the local custom of visiting after midday so village ceremonies are not disturbed. Ask at the gate.

Which one?
Choose Nungnung if you want a big, dramatic waterfall and can handle a long staircase. Choose Goa Gong if you have kids, want a calm pool to soak in, or want a waterfall without other people. For most relaxed travellers our pick is Goa Gong: Rp10,000 more, half the effort and far fewer people. Got half a day? Do both, Goa Gong first in the morning and Nungnung afterwards.
