Pengerupukan & Ogoh-Ogoh Parade 2028

Saturday, 25 March 2028 in 520 days

The night before Nyepi: giant ogoh-ogoh demon effigies are paraded with torches and gamelan, then burned.

Practical advice

Parades start around sunset. Roads close and ride-hailing is nearly impossible after dark — stay somewhere you can reach the parade on foot.

What happens

On the final evening before Nyepi every neighbourhood parades its ogoh-ogoh — giant effigies of evil spirits, built over months — through the village behind bleganjur gamelan and torches, then burns them to drive out negativity.

Impact on your trip

It is the most spectacular night of the year and the hardest for getting around. Many roads close from late afternoon and ride-hailing apps effectively stop working near parade routes. Shops close early because Nyepi begins tomorrow.

How to prepare

Buy food, water and any medication before this evening — tomorrow everything is shut. Charge every device. Watch the parade near your accommodation; do not plan long journeys after dusk.
