Airfare is usually the second-biggest cost after the hotel, and in 2026 it balloons more easily. Jet fuel rose 72.45% on 1 April 2026, so a Jakarta–Bali return that normally costs around Rp1.95–2.45 million reached Rp3.6–4 million for 17–19 April (CNN Indonesia, 13 April 2026). For September 2026, Indonesia’s Ministry of Transportation also raised the domestic economy fuel-surcharge cap to 40% of the fare ceiling (August: 30%). Prices change every day, so the figures below are only comparison ranges — confirm the final price in the airline app or an OTA.
Domestic Routes to Denpasar (DPS) & Their Airlines
- Jakarta Soekarno-Hatta (CGK) — the busiest route, about 1 hour 50 minutes. Served by Garuda Indonesia, Citilink, Batik Air, Lion Air, Super Air Jet, Indonesia AirAsia and Pelita Air, plus TransNusa and Sriwijaya Air on some schedules. A December 2025 snapshot: one way from about Rp850,000 (low-cost carriers) to Rp1.8 million (Garuda).
- Jakarta Halim (HLP) — Citilink still flies Halim–Denpasar; Batik Air moved its Bali flights to Soekarno-Hatta on 1 August 2025.
- Surabaya (SUB) — about 1 hour; Garuda, Citilink, Batik Air, Lion Air, Super Air Jet and TransNusa (from 21 September 2026). On ordinary days fares often sit around Rp900,000–1 million one way.
- Yogyakarta (YIA) & Bandung (BDO) — from YIA about 1 hour 25 minutes, with Garuda and Super Air Jet among others. Bandung’s Husein Sastranegara Airport has handled jets again since 14 August 2026: Garuda, Citilink and Super Air Jet (daily since 18 September 2026).
- Other cities — Lombok (40–50 minutes; Wings Air, TransNusa), Labuan Bajo (Batik Air, Indonesia AirAsia), Makassar (Lion Air, Batik Air, Citilink), plus Medan, Semarang and Solo (Super Air Jet). A Kertajati–Bali return in 2026 is not yet confirmed.
International Direct Routes (2026 Status)
- Singapore (±2.5 hours) — Singapore Airlines, Scoot, Garuda, Indonesia AirAsia and Batik Air. Jetstar Asia ceased operations on 31 July 2025, so ignore old information under its name.
- Kuala Lumpur (±3 hours) — Malaysia Airlines, AirAsia, Batik Air Malaysia and AirAsia X (since June 2026). Bangkok, Manila and Ho Chi Minh City also have direct flights.
- Australia — Jetstar, Virgin Australia, Qantas, Garuda, Batik Air and Indonesia AirAsia from cities such as Perth, Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane; the choice of airlines differs by city. AirAsia closed its Darwin–Bali route in April 2026.
- East Asia — Tokyo Narita (Garuda, daily, ±7 hours), Seoul Incheon (Korean Air, Jeju Air, and Garuda, back since July 2026), Hong Kong (Cathay Pacific, Hong Kong Airlines), Taipei (China Airlines, EVA Air, Starlux), plus a number of cities in China.
- Middle East & India — Qatar Airways (Doha, twice daily, ±9 hours 45 minutes), Emirates (Dubai), Etihad (Abu Dhabi, 11 times a week since September 2026), Turkish Airlines (Istanbul), Saudia (Jeddah); IndiGo nonstop from Bengaluru (Mumbai still stops in Chennai) and Air India from Delhi. There is no regular nonstop from Europe — KLM flies via Singapore.
When to Buy: The Honest Truth About Cheap-Fare Myths
- Booking window: for domestic routes, about 1.5–2 months before departure (CNN Indonesia, August 2026); international routes usually leave more choice if booked several months ahead.
- Avoid the peaks: July–August, roughly 20 December–5 January, the Lebaran holiday and long weekends. Government incentives do exist (6% government-borne VAT for Christmas–New Year 2025/26, a 50% airport service charge discount for Lebaran 2026), but the cheapest seats go fast. On Nyepi, Ngurah Rai Airport closes for 24 hours.
- Tuesday–Wednesday is often cheaper, but it is no guarantee: prices follow remaining seats, not the day of the week. Turn on price alerts and compare the fare calendar ±3 days.
- Natural risks: ash from Anak Krakatau’s eruption halted Bali–Jakarta and Bali–Bandung flights until 8 September 2026. Choose a fare that can be rescheduled and consider travel insurance.
Baggage, Extra Fees & Levies
- Free checked baggage, domestic economy: Garuda 23 kg (since 1 September 2026), Batik Air and Pelita Air 20 kg, Citilink 15 kg (ATR aircraft 10 kg), Lion Air and Super Air Jet 10 kg, Wings Air 0 kg. Indonesia AirAsia has offered 15 kg since October 2025 — double-check when booking.
- Final price: the cheapest fare often excludes seat selection, extra baggage and meals — compare the total on the payment page; airport tax (PSC) is already included.
- Foreign visitors must pay a Rp150,000 per-person levy on top of the ticket and visa — how to pay and the QR proof are covered in Bali Foreign Tourist Levy Rp150,000, while immigration and baggage flow is explained in I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport Guide 2026.
Money-Saving Strategy: Flexible Fare + Hotel Voucher
- Lock in the cheapest flight date first. A one- or two-day difference can mean hundreds of thousands of rupiah per person; many AccessiaPass hotel vouchers allow date flexibility within their validity period, so your stay can follow your ticket — check each voucher’s terms.
- Watch your landing time. Night flights are often cheaper; spend the first night at a hotel near the airport (see Staying Near Ngurah Rai Airport 2026), and estimated transfer costs to other areas are in our Airport Transfer Guide.
- Count the whole trip: ticket + baggage + transfer + hotel. The cheapest fare on a peak date can cost more overall than a slightly pricier ticket when hotel rates drop.
Once your cheapest fare is locked in, don’t let the hotel become the cost that balloons. Choose an AccessiaPass hotel voucher in your destination area now, align it with your flight dates, and put the savings toward the best experiences in Bali.
