Just a few minutes above Pura Besakih, the slopes of Mount Agung turn into beds of creamy-white flowers. This is Taman Edelweis Bali in Banjar Dinas Temukus, Desa Besakih, Rendang District, Karangasem — a flower garden that Temukus villagers transformed from ordinary farmland. Despite the name, the main flower is not true edelweiss but kasna, a local edelweiss look-alike long cultivated for Balinese Hindu ceremonies.
Kasna, Marigolds & Photo Spots with Mount Agung Behind
- Creamy-white kasna grows in neat rows, mixed with orange gumitir (marigold) and red celosia, which are also used in canang offerings.
- Photo spots: footpaths through the flowers, wooden bridges, swings, huts and a viewing tower, a bamboo gateway and a decorative windmill — with Mount Agung as the backdrop on clear days.
- There is a parking area and a small warung/café serving coffee and Indonesian food.
- To be honest: visitor reviews from 2026 note that some photo props are getting worn and the steps get slippery in the rain. Enjoy it as a 30–60 minute stop rather than a full-day destination.
- The local government is now also promoting Temukus kasna as a daily canang flower, so the garden lives on as working village farmland.
Weather & Best Time
- At around 1,100 m above sea level the air is cool to cold, and fog can roll in at any time and hide Mount Agung. Bring a light jacket and a raincoat.
- Come in the morning (07:00–09:00) for soft light and the best chance of seeing Mount Agung’s summit; late afternoon (15:00–17:00) is also good when clear.
- Kasna looks its best in the run-up to Galungan, because many flowers are picked for the ceremonies at Galungan. The next Galungan falls on 13 January 2027.
- The dry season is generally clearer; in the rainy season the footpaths and wooden bridges get slippery.
Route & Pairing with Pura Besakih
- From Pura Besakih: about 5–10 minutes (roughly 2–4 km) uphill towards Temukus; the road is narrow and steep, so slow down when passing oncoming traffic.
- From Denpasar: about 55 km or roughly 1 hour 45 minutes; from Ubud about 1.5 hours via Klungkung and Rendang.
- Ideal combo: visit Pura Besakih in the morning, stop at Taman Edelweis before the midday fog, then head down to Rendang or on to Sidemen.
