Pura Segara Rupek: Tickets, Road Access and Can You Swim?

To reach Pura Segara Rupek you enter West Bali National Park (TNBB), so there are two charges: a village ticket of about Rp15k for groups, and the park ticket of Rp20-30k per person for Indonesians or Rp200k for foreigners, paid cashless (detikBali May 2025 and the TNBB e-ticket system; checked October 2026). The temple stands at Bali's north-western tip in Sumberklampok village, Gerokgak, about 15 km from the Gilimanuk-Singaraja main road.

Why do people come here?

Rupek means narrow, and the temple faces the narrowest part of the Bali Strait. According to the story kept by worshippers, Mpu Siddhimantra drew a line in the ground with his staff to separate himself from his son, Manik Angkeran, and Bali split from Java. From the temple courtyard Java looks very close, nearer than it does from Gilimanuk harbour.

What is the road like?

This forest track used to be known as 4WD only. According to detikBali (May 2025), it is now mostly paved but only one car wide, with overhanging branches and monkeys and deer often crossing. Ordinary cars and scooters can make it if you drive slowly. Allow roughly 45 minutes from Gilimanuk and about an hour from Pemuteran.

Can you swim?

There is a small beach in front of the temple, but no lifeguard, and this is the narrowest point of the strait, with tidal currents and the Ketapang-Gilimanuk ferry traffic. If you want to get wet, just wade at the edge when the sea is calm and do not swim out. Flags and currents are explained in our article on beach safety in Bali.

Are there food stalls or toilets?

None of the sources we checked mention a warung at the temple. Assume there is nothing: bring water and food from Gilimanuk or Sumberklampok. Wild monkeys roam around the temple, so keep food and plastic bags out of sight.

What are the entry rules?

Balinese temple dress, at least a sarong (kamen) and sash, is required inside. Temple anniversaries (piodalan) are held regularly, and visitors may watch from the courtyard if they are respectful. A quick read on temple etiquette helps if it is your first time.

What can you combine it with?

It works best as a continuation of a morning Prapat Agung trek. The same TNBB ticket applies, and your guide can point you down the road to the tip of the peninsula.
