Nothing quite prepares you for your first sight of Kelingking Beach on the southwest coast of Nusa Penida. A green karst headland juts into the sea in a silhouette resembling a Tyrannosaurus rex head—jaw, snout, and arched back included—while a white-sand cove and turquoise water stretch below. It's one of Bali's most photographed panoramas, and for obvious reason.
The Iconic Viewpoint & Best Photos
From the car park it's just a few minutes' walk to the main lookout—the spot for the classic “T-Rex” shot. The softest light falls between 7–9 a.m., before the sun climbs and heat haze flattens the contrast. Arriving early also puts you ahead of the tour groups that usually roll in near midday.
- Best angle: shift slightly left of the railing to frame the cliff's whole “head.”
- Bring: a hat, water, and sunscreen—there's almost no shade.
- Entry fees: since 1 September 2026 the site fee for Kelingking is Rp25,000 per adult and Rp15,000 per child (foreigners and Indonesians), on top of the Nusa Penida area fee of Rp25,000/Rp15,000 that foreigners pay once per visit (Klungkung bylaw 4/2026; Kompas, 12 August 2026). Payment is cashless; some reports say per-site collection has slipped, so check on arrival (checked 21 October 2026). Parking is separate. Descending to the White Sand
For the fit, a steep wooden-stair-and-rope path leads down to the beach in 20–40 minutes. It's sharp, slippery, and a tough climb back—wear grippy shoes and skip it in rain. The sand below is soft and the surf strong; wade in, enjoy the view, but avoid swimming out as the currents are dangerous.
