Jagatnatha Botanic Garden (Kebun Raya Jagatnatha) in Negara, Jembrana, charges Rp5,000 per adult and covers 5.8 hectares. Bali Botanic Garden in Bedugul charges Rp15,000 on weekdays and Rp25,000 at weekends and covers about 157 hectares. Both are botanic gardens, but they play very different roles in a trip.
Quick comparison (checked October 2026)
- Location: Jagatnatha sits on the Denpasar-Gilimanuk road in Dauhwaru, sharing grounds with Pura Jagatnatha Jembrana, about 10 minutes from central Negara. Bali Botanic Garden is in Candikuning, Baturiti, in the Tabanan highlands.
- Jagatnatha tickets: adults Rp5,000, children Rp3,000, student groups Rp2,000 per person (Warta Jatim, July 2025). For foreign visitors IDN Times (April 2026) quotes Rp5,000-10,000.
- Bedugul tickets: Rp15,000 weekdays, Rp25,000 weekends, car parking Rp30,000 and motorbikes Rp10,000 (detikBali, January 2026).
- Jagatnatha hours: daily 08:00-18:00.
- Collection: Jagatnatha is themed on upakara (plants used in Hindu ceremonies) and usada (traditional Balinese medicinal plants), with Pura Jagatnatha as its centrepiece. Bedugul is a general botanic garden with orchids, cacti and huge old trees.
- Jagatnatha facilities: viewing pavilion, Pura Beji, wantilan hall, gazebos, fountain, restaurant and toilets.
- Crowds: Jagatnatha is quiet; NusaBali once recorded an average of 20-30 visitors per weekday. Bedugul fills with local families at weekends, including groups camping, picnicking and singing karaoke.
The drawbacks
Jagatnatha is small. You can walk its 5.8 hectares in under an hour, and Negara is in the coastal lowlands, so midday is hot. Its appeal is in the labels and the role of each plant, so visitors who only want scenery may feel short-changed. The address also varies: Jalan Surapati on the Jembrana tourism office site, Jalan Jenderal Sudirman in some media. Search by name on Maps instead.
Bedugul is far bigger, but it sits above 1,200 metres, so mist and afternoon rain are common. At weekends the car parks and picnic lawns fill quickly and group karaoke carries across parts of the garden.
Who should pick which
- Pick Jagatnatha if you are driving through to Gilimanuk, staying in Medewi or Negara, or curious about the plants behind Balinese offerings and healing. It is a 45-90 minute stop, not a day out.
- Pick Bedugul if you want a large, cool garden for a half-day picnic, combined with Pura Ulun Danu Beratan. Our full review is in the Bali Botanic Garden in Bedugul article.
Our verdict: do not drive about 3 hours from south Bali just for Jagatnatha. Make it a stop on a west Bali route, paired with Pura Rambut Siwi along the same road. If your western route needs an overnight stay, check AccessiaPass hotel vouchers before you set off.

- Bring: water, a hat and comfortable shoes. Do not pick any of the collection plants.
Arrive before 10:00, while Negara is still mild and the wooden paths between the beds have not yet baked in the sun.
