Desa Seni Baturiti: Antique Wooden Houses and Cool Air in the Bali Highlands

After nearly two decades as a Canggu landmark, Desa Seni, A Village Resort closed its property on Jl. Subak Sari, Berawa on 15 January 2025 and moved everything to Baturiti, Tabanan. The new site in Banjar Mayungan, Antapan has welcomed guests since 15 August 2024 — and the result is a far quieter Desa Seni, wrapped in gardens, forest and the cool air of Bali's central highlands.

Every unit is an original antique wooden home gathered from across the Indonesian archipelago, then reassembled and restored, so no two rooms are truly alike.

Who It Suits and How to Get There

• Ideal for a quiet retreat, a digital detox, solo travellers or couples; less so if you want beaches and nightlife nearby.
• About 1.5 hours from Ngurah Rai Airport (allow up to 2 hours in traffic); around 45–60 minutes from Ubud.
• Close to Bedugul, Ulun Danu Beratan and Jatiluwih, plus waterfalls, local markets and hot springs.
• The road is winding and steep; at roughly 600 metres and above, night temperatures can drop to 17–20°C, so pack a light jacket.
