Kerenkali is a river gorge in the Gitgit area of Sukasada district, Buleleng, explored and rigged for canyoning by operator Adventure & Spirit in 2009 as an extension of the Kalimudah canyon. Here you rappel down waterfalls, ride natural rock slides and jump into clear pools between walls of volcanic rock — one of the few water canyoning routes in Bali that runs all year.
What the Route Is Like
- Two sections: the Kalimudah stretch as a warm-up, then Kerenkali itself with volcanic rock and tuff corridors, small caves and sulphurous pools welling up from underground.
- Rappels: up to 12 descents, the highest about 20 m beside a waterfall.
- Slides & jumps: three rock slides of up to about 6 m, two jumps of around 5 m with higher optional spots, plus swimming and floating.
- Duration: 3–4 hours inside the canyon, a 5-minute walk in and 15-minute walk out; a full day including transport.
Price, Requirements & What’s Included
- Price: around US$175 per person (roughly Rp2.8–3 million depending on the exchange rate), minimum 2 and maximum 12 people per group, with 2 ICOpro-certified instructors/assistants. Seasonal promotions run regularly, so check when booking.
- Requirements: minimum age 12, good health and able to swim 25 m. Mention any medical conditions upfront.
- Included: return transfer from accommodation anywhere in Bali, light breakfast at base camp, vegetarian/vegan lunch, helmet, shoes, wetsuit, harness, gloves, towel, insurance up to US$25,000, photos and a certificate. Guides speak English, French or Indonesian.
- Bring: swimwear, a change of clothes, a warm jacket (the base camp sits at about 1,000 m above sea level) and a waterproof camera if you like.
Safety & Best Time
- April–October (dry season) is the most comfortable; in the rainy season water levels rise and guides may adjust or postpone the route.
- Never jump or slide before your guide gives the signal, and remove jewellery before the descent.
- The drive to the Gitgit area takes about 2–2.5 hours from Ubud, 2.5–3 hours from Seminyak or Canggu, and around 45 minutes from Lovina.
