Air Panas Banjar (Banjar Hot Springs) is a sacred natural hot spring complex in Banjar Village, Buleleng Regency, just about 10 kilometres from the Lovina tourist area. Hidden among a lush tropical garden, it offers a soak in warm sulphur water of around 38°C, long believed to soothe the skin and relax muscles. The atmosphere is calm and far from the crowds of South Bali, making it perfect for relaxation after a day exploring the north.
Three Pools & Stone Naga Spouts
The main attraction is the dragon-headed (naga) spouts carved from stone, channelling sulphur water into the pools. There are three levels with different experiences:
- Upper pool with a row of naga spouts for a relaxed soak.
- Middle pool where the water flows stronger, popular for a natural back massage.
- Lower pool with a high cascade that hits the shoulders like a warm shower.
What to Prepare
- Bring a change of clothes and a towel; simple rinse rooms and lockers are available.
- Wear a swimsuit; sulphur water can stain light-coloured fabric.
- Come in the morning for fewer crowds and fresh air.
- There is an on-site restaurant for a meal or a drink after your soak.
Combine with Brahmavihara-Arama
Just a few minutes' drive from Banjar Hot Springs is Brahmavihara-Arama, the largest Buddhist monastery in Bali, with a mini Borobudur replica and peaceful gardens. Together they make the Banjar area a perfect half-day destination while staying in Lovina.
