Telaga Surya, Rendang: 8 Things to Know Before a Dip in Karangasem

Telaga Surya in Banjar Tegenan, Menanga village, Rendang district, is three spring-fed pools beside the Telaga Waja River, with tickets at Rp15,000 for adults and Rp5,000 for children according to detikTravel (November 2023). A Beritabali report in December 2025 confirms it is still busy with visitors but gives no new prices. Treat Rp15,000 as a guide and bring cash (checked September 2026). Before you go, eight things people often miss:

1. This is not Lembah Arca

The same banjar also has Lembah Arca, a bathing spot in the Arca weir irrigation channel with a Rp10,000 ticket. Telaga Surya has different managers and different water: its pools are fed by the Surya spring, once used as a fishing pond and turned into a bathing place by villagers during the pandemic. Type the full name into your map so you do not end up next door.

2. The road down is steep

Access to the pools drops sharply. According to 2023 coverage, the operators run a free shuttle from the car park. Use it, especially on an automatic scooter or with children.

3. Opening hours are inconsistent

detikTravel lists 08:00-18:00 WITA, other travel sources say 09:00-17:00. Arriving between 09:00 and 16:00 is safe.

4. No soap or shampoo

The water flows back into the river, so soap is not allowed in the pools. Wash properly in the shower rooms.

5. Women who are menstruating may not swim

The operators told detikTravel about this rule, which is common at bathing places considered sacred in Bali. Plan your dates.

6. The pools are shallow and small

The main pool is about 1.25 metres, the children's pool 70-80 cm with a slide, and a private pool 80 cm. Good for soaking and kids, less so if you want to swim laps.

7. Bring small notes

Unlocked lockers, toilets and changing rooms are free. Inner-tube rental is Rp5,000, a lockable locker Rp5,000, and meals at the small restaurant Rp8,000-20,000 (2023 prices).

8. Weekends and the rainy season

In 2023 the operators counted 70-100 visitors a day, peaking at weekends, so pick a weekday. After heavy rain the Telaga Waja River can rise and turn murky.
