Secret Beach, Nusa Ceningan: Worth the Trip or Just a Look?

Secret Beach on the south side of Nusa Ceningan charges no entry fee, but since 1 September 2026 foreign visitors to the Nusa Lembongan-Ceningan area must pay an area levy of Rp25,000 per adult and Rp15,000 per child (ages 4-13), under Klungkung Regency Regulation No. 4 of 2026. The beach is a small white-sand cove between two wooded hills, with clear blue water and reef right at the shoreline.

What you get

Fine sand, a few coconut palms for shade, and water that looks like a turquoise pool from above. On weekdays there are few visitors; several travel writers reported having it almost to themselves for hours. Sometimes a local sells young coconuts, about Rp10,000 each according to one report. For sitting quietly, reading and taking photos, it is a pleasant spot.

The downsides, before you swim

This is the key point: Secret Beach is better for looking at and lounging than for swimming. The seabed is full of rock and reef, the waves can be sizeable, and several TripAdvisor reviews mention strong currents. The water is relatively calm only at low tide on windless days. Wear water shoes and do not let small children swim here.

Access is the other problem. The road down to the cove is very steep and the steps are hard going for older visitors. Villa Trevally, the resort on the beach, used to be the parking and drinks stop, with a pool you could use for a minimum spend of around Rp75-100k. Reports now conflict, and one blog says it closed in 2022, so do not count on its facilities. Bring your own water and sunscreen. Because the way back is steep and dark, a night on Lembongan or Ceningan is easier than a same-day return to Sanur; you can check hotel vouchers on both islands on AccessiaPass.

The 2026 Nusa levies in brief

Klungkung Regency began collecting two kinds of levy on 1 September 2026. First, an area levy for foreign visitors, paid once. Second, Rp25,000 per adult (Rp15,000 per child) at each attraction that uses the One Gate One Destination system, such as Devil's Tear on Lembongan and Kelingking, Broken Beach, Angel's Billabong, Crystal Bay and Teletubbies Hill on Nusa Penida. Secret Beach does not appear in the lists reported by the media, but the rules are new. Carry small cash in case there is a post on site. Checked September 2026.

Getting there and practical info

  • Route: from Nusa Lembongan, cross the Yellow Bridge, take the second right, then follow the coastal road until you see signs for "Secret Beach" or "Villa Trevally". Most people use a rented scooter, about Rp80,000 a day according to one report.
  • Location: View on Google Maps
  • Cost: the beach is free; the area levy is Rp25,000 for foreign adults.
  • Hours: open all day, but come in daylight because the way out is steep and unlit.
  • Instagram: search on Instagram for recent conditions.
  • Do not confuse it with: Secret Point on the west side of Ceningan, which is a separate surf spot.

If you only have one day on Ceningan, give Secret Beach 45-60 minutes for photos and a sit under the palms, then move on to Mahana Point if you want to try cliff jumping.
