Puri Jati is a black-sand beach in Umeanyar village, Seririt district, known to divers as a muck diving site: a shallow volcanic-sand bottom where small creatures such as mimic octopus, frogfish, seahorses and nudibranchs hide. These are the things people often get wrong before they go.
Before you go
- There is no colourful coral reef. The draw is macro life on sand, not coral. If you want reef snorkelling, Pemuteran or Menjangan suit you better.
- Murky water in the first 5 metres is normal. Waves and fine sand cloud the surface layer, and it clears further down the slope. Most dives stay at 10 metres or shallower.
- Go with a dive operator. Entry is from the beach, sometimes with a short boat ride of about 5 minutes. As a price example, Abyss Ocean World in Pemuteran lists Rp1.5 million for 2 dives at Puri Jati, including gear, refreshments and site fees, with a drive of about 45 minutes.
- There is a per-diver fee for the village. According to AquaMarine Diving, half goes to maintaining the facilities and half to the village. The amount is not published and is usually included in operator packages.
- Do not drive home over the mountains after diving. The Bedugul and Munduk roads climb above 1,000 m. Operators coming from the south usually return via the coast road to respect altitude-after-diving guidelines, so the trip back takes much longer.
- From south Bali it is 3-4 hours each way. Nico Dives in Sanur does not even offer day trips here. Staying in Lovina or Pemuteran makes far more sense. If you need a room nearby, check Lovina-area hotel vouchers on AccessiaPass before booking a dive package.
- Beach facilities are basic but present. Buleleng Regency's Visit North Bali site lists parking, a restaurant, showers, rinse tanks and toilets.
- The location name is confusing. The regency places it in Umeanyar, while some operators say Bubunan or "near Seririt". Use the map pin below, or follow your operator's car.

If you like muck diving, operators often pair Puri Jati with Secret Bay Gilimanuk. For a dry day, Titab Dam is only about half an hour from Seririt. Prices checked in October 2026.
