Blue Corner, Nusa Lembongan: Before You Dive for Mola Mola

Blue Corner, on the north-west coast of Nusa Lembongan just past the mangroves, is a drift dive of 10-40 m with strong currents that can change direction. Mola mola season here runs July to October (some operators say into November), so October 2026 puts you at the tail end of it.

What people often miss before going

  • Certification and logged dives. Operators require at least Advanced Open Water, and local guides recommend around 50 logged dives plus drift experience. If you are not there yet, start with a dive course in Bali and save Blue Corner for the next trip.
  • The current is not only sideways. Local divers describe it as horizontal, vertical and diagonal. Carry a surface marker buoy, stay close to your guide and stick to the ascent plan. In February 2014 seven divers (five Japanese tourists and two instructors) were swept away after diving the Jungutbatu mangrove area, not far from here (ANTARA).
  • The water can be cold. Thermoclines drop the temperature to about 18°C, far below the surface reading. Rent a 5 mm wetsuit or bring a hood.
  • Mola are not guaranteed. They rise from deep water to be cleaned by small fish, and the best odds are usually in the morning. Ask your operator whether they run a dedicated early-morning dive to this site.
  • Cost. Two-dive packages range from Rp1.1 million at Lembongan Dive Center (Rp1 million January-May) to Rp2 million plus 10% Klungkung tax at World Diving, including gear and lunch on the boat (roughly US$65-135, checked October 2026).
  • Island levy. Lembongan falls under the Nusa Penida levy, see how to pay the Nusa Penida levy.

Who should skip it

Beginner divers, snorkellers, anyone prone to seasickness and anyone not yet comfortable controlling buoyancy in current. For snorkelling in gentler water, the mangrove side of Lembongan makes more sense.

Getting there and booking

  • Location: View on Google Maps
  • From Sanur, the fast boat to Lembongan takes about 30-45 minutes. Dive boats leave from Jungutbatu beach or from Toyapakeh on Nusa Penida (about 15 minutes to the site).
  • Book through a dive centre on Lembongan or Nusa Penida; you cannot reach the site on your own. Send your certification card and number of logged dives when booking.
  • Recent photos and dive reports: search on Instagram

If the mola do not show, Blue Corner still regularly brings eagle rays, turtles and whitetip reef sharks. Ask your guide the day before how the current and tide look for the next morning.
