Betutu chicken mixed rice at Ayam Betutu Ibu Nia, Jalan Merdeka No. 1 in Renon, costs Rp28,000-46,000 and a whole chicken Rp125,000-160,000, according to detikBali as of 29 September 2026. Open since 1 April 2013, the restaurant holds an MUI Bali halal certificate, which is still uncommon among Denpasar's betutu warungs.
What to order
Eating alone, go for the nasi campur: white rice, shredded betutu chicken, egg, sate lilit, vegetables, fried peanuts and crackers. If you are properly hungry, order the porsian, a quarter chicken with rice, vegetables, peanuts and sambal. You can choose broiler or free-range (kampung) chicken, in the original (with broth) or fried version. For groups or to take home there is a whole chicken (ekoran), frozen betutu and gift hampers. There is also a kids' menu.
What sets it apart is the four Balinese sambals, terasi, matah, embe and uyah sere tabia, which you can help yourself to when eating in. According to the official website, the heat comes from chilli and the bumbu genep spice paste rather than pepper, and the cooking oil is coconut oil (tanusan), not palm oil.
Is it halal?
Yes. The official website lists MUI Bali halal certificate number 08160019991024 and a hygiene certificate from the Denpasar City Health Office. The chicken is also described as sukla (ritually pure), so Hindu families order whole birds for temple offerings. The site says those orders are heavy around Purnama, Tilem and other holy days, so order early if you need a whole chicken on those dates.
The downsides
Parking is tight and the dining room has no air conditioning. A Whats New Indonesia review (August 2025) put it simply: come hungry, but do not expect a big car park. At lunchtime a scooter or ride-hailing bike is easier than a car. Gilimanuk-style betutu also tends to be spicy, so if you cannot handle chilli, take a little sambal first and ask about the heat level when ordering.

It sits in the same Renon district as the Bajra Sandhi Monument, so lunch here pairs easily with an afternoon walk around Renon square. To plan a whole day of warung hopping, see the Bali food route guide for 2026.
