Penelokan Viewpoint, Kintamani: What Changed in October 2026

Since Tuesday, 6 October 2026, the Penelokan viewing deck (Anjungan Penelokan) in Kintamani has been cleared of street vendors and hawkers. The operation was carried out by Bangli's public order agency (Satpol PP) with the regency tourism office, village guards (pecalang) from the Batur and Kedisan customary villages, and the army and police, after vendors had received first and second warning letters (Bali Post, 7 October 2026). Bangli's tourism chief, I Wayan Dirga Yusa, said selling is not permitted on the deck and patrols will continue.

What does it mean for visitors?

The terrace overlooking Mount Batur and Lake Batur should be easier for photos without someone offering goods at every step. If you want a drink, the warungs and cafés along Jalan Raya Penelokan are still open.

What is still unresolved

• A video billboard at the end of the deck was put up by a private individual without a building permit. The tourism office called it an eyesore and handed the matter to Satpol PP (Bali Post, 9 September 2026).
• The Penelokan pavement, rebuilt in 2022 for about Rp9.8 billion, is now cracked and peeling in many places, and Bangli has no repair budget for it this year (Bali Post, 28 September 2026). Take care with a stroller or wheelchair.
• Jalan Batur to Jalan Raya Kintamani, in front of Ulun Danu Batur Temple, is potholed and the provincial government plans repairs from October or November 2026. Allow extra time if roadworks are underway.

Fees and getting there

• Kintamani area fee: Rp50,000 for foreign visitors, Rp25,000 for domestic visitors, Rp10,000 for holders of a Bali ID card, collected 08.00-17.00 at checkpoints such as the one in front of the Batur Geopark Museum (Bangli tourism office via detikBali, March 2026; checked October 2026). A one-gate online ticket system was slated for a July 2026 trial, but we have not found an announcement that it launched.

Arriving before 8 am has two advantages: morning mist over the lake and no one yet at the fee checkpoints. Afterwards, the Batur Volcano Museum is a few hundred metres from the deck, and Warung Jowet serves crispy tilapia with the same view.
